Before we left Charlotte, we went to IKEA.
When we pulled in the parking lot, this is what we saw...
Interesting
Nice paint job
What were we looking for at IKEA? Mainly just looking -- you just never know what you will find at IDEA.
Since we live in a small place, maybe we will find something we just can't live without.
Words of Wisdom
Do you think this would fit in our MH?
How 'bout a new chair?
We bought a few little things, such as an organizer for our spices and a set of knives and a new duvet cover for our bed.
The knife set rides very nicely on the counter after Alan put "fish eyes" on the bottom.
Our new duvet cover
The following Tuesday, April 3, we left Charlotte for our kids' house in Nashville, North Carolina. We made our way to I-95 where we stopped for gas -- along with many other RV'ers.
Snowbirds heading North
Since we had been sitting under pine trees for the better part of three months, Alan wanted and needed to clean the Motorhome. In 2008, while cleaning the 5th wheel we had then, Alan fell -- OR when he saw he was going to fall, he jumped. His left foot went into a hole making him shift all his weight and he broke his heel bone. He had surgery where a metal plate and nine screws were inserted to hold the bone together. I say all this to say it is extremely difficult for me to watch him climb on top of the Motorhome, but he was determined.
And boy did the roof need cleaning
Just look at the difference
Easter Sunday with the grandkids, Sarah (20) and Dalton (13)
Son-in-Law Matt, Daughter Alissa, Dalton, Sarah
We had a great day with our little family.
I almost forgot to mention our diet -- or better yet, our new way of eating. Alan has lost 13 lbs and me, a measly 5, but we are encouraged. Alan had a doc appointment earlier this week and they were very happy with his numbers. His triglycerides went from 153 to 69; overall cholesterol down from 157 to 104; LDL from 81 to 42; Glucose from 128 to 118. The doc told him he could prob stop his diabetes med, but he wants to wait until it is under 100. Needless to say, how we are eating is working -- just a little slower for me. I keep reminding myself that men lose it quicker and easier than we women. He has also added Milk Thistle and Alpha Lipoic Acid to his supplements.
That's it for now -- thanks for stopping by. Until next time, may God continue to bless our voyage and our family, friends and fellow bloggers wherever you are. Be safe as you travel!
Wonderful progress on eating healthier! The blood numbers don't lie! Was his doctor surprised?
ReplyDeleteI don't go in for blood work for a couple of weeks yet, but I am really looking forward to finding out if my new way of eating is working.
I'm down by 21 pounds. My goal is/was -22 by the time I go in for blood tests in May. I think I'll make it, but the last two pounds have been sooo hard and taken soo long to melt off.
Share a recipe or two along with his good numbers!
His doc was surprised and wrote words like "Great" "WOW" on the paperwork. Sounds like you definitely could give me some pointers. I have to admit that most of what we have eaten has come from TJ -- along with salads, such as veg lasagna. We eat mainly chicken, turkey sandwiches on pumpernickel bread. We've also switched to coconut oil and Almond milk. I make buckwheat pancakes -- I've never used syrup on mine but Alan uses a sugar-free syrup (Joseph's) and we use coconut spread instead of butter. We've switched to Xylitol sweetner -- no after taste like Stevia, etc. We eat Clemmy's ice cream -- had never heard of it 'til we got the BellyFat book, but it's sweetened with Xylitol. And he thinks the Alpha Lipoic Acid is another reason for lowering his blood sugar.
DeleteI know what you mean about going on top of the motorhome! I cringe every time Dave has to go up there. Better him than me, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sooo nervous. He really is sure-footed, but it only takes one time as we found out. And he continues to have probs with that foot.
DeleteGotta love Ikea for organizing in nooks and crannies!
ReplyDeleteWow! The motor home roof looks amazing and Alan stayed safe! A successful day all the way around!
Loved the family picture! Keep up the good work on your new eating plan...
We love just walking around IKEA and looking at everything.
DeleteHe did a good job -- hopefully it will last for awhile!
Thanks -- I personally don't see much change in me, but I'm going to keep on keeping on!
The view from the top is always better than the view from the bottom. I will be cleaning our RV roof this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI will have to take your word for it because that's something I will never find out...LOL!
DeleteCongratulations on the success of your new healthy eating and to Alan for keeping his feet on the roof! Your new duvet cover looks great. Only been in an IKEA store twice and spent hours looking around.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed looking at the ecowomb.com site. Their motorhome is fueled by vegetable oil. Very interesting.
Thanks -- just wish I could see more results in myself, but I'm not giving up! IKEA is just one of those stores that you can spend hours just looking around...love it!
DeleteYes, I saw that it was fueled by veggie oil -- it is very interesting! Just wonder what all is involved in getting to the point of putting it in the tank.
Congrats to both of you on weight loss. Eating healthy will not help you live longer, but have better lives. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks -- I'm going to keep trying, but I'm not very patient. I want instant results and that's not going to happen!
DeleteGood job on the weight loss. And what a pretty, clean, roof. I also hate it when Lee is up on the roof.
ReplyDeleteHe did a great job, but he is very meticulous. Hopefully, it will last awhile!
DeleteAhhh Ikea, we try to stay away from there, too dangerous to the pocket book! Good job on the weight loss and numbers! I don't know if it's true men lose weight easier, I have hit a wall at 247 that seems unbreakable but I keep trying.
ReplyDeleteI have a long way to get before my A1C and other numbers are where Alan's is but hopefully by my next appointment in May my A1C will be closer to a low 7 than the 8.9 it was last time.
Safe travels,
Erik
Oh yeah, good luck in your quest to lose weight as well Marilyn!
